Blew a 2012 6.7 on my work truck. Looking for a shop recommendation to replace or unlikely repair said engine. I am in NJ, so NY, NJ, Eastern PA are all close enough where I can transport over. Thanx in advance
Thanx gyus, I'll be calling around to see who can do it when including my dealer. As to why it blew Scott? We had a loaded trailer full of logs weighing I'm guessing 12,000#, second load mind you. was at idle for an hour, then started off and just started making all kinds of racket. I have 2 mechanics working for me and they both said bottom end. like crank bearings or rods. Not sure if it's related, but we just installed a AFE CAI on the truck maybe 500 miles previous as she was really lacking power. She has about 230,000 miles on her.

a CAI wont cuase bottom end damage.
there are various potential points of failure in a pre 2015 6.7 that would cause a blown bottom end
a. spun crank bearings
b. oil pump related failure. its not clear if this is actually an oil pump failure or pressure relief valve failure.
c. hydro locking resulting from coolant leaking into cylinders from cracked pax side intake manifold.
d. extending oil drain intervals will agrevate (a) above.
e. rare on a 6.7, but not impossible....tourched piston from injector stuck open.
I've been reading about this before but they say the oil pressure regulator is a potential problem as the pressure can drop to under 40 psi while under high load which can lead to rod bearing failures.
Not that this was the problem but it might be an option to think about when it's rebuilt as an upgrade. Plus he lists other parts as well but he's at 600 hp.
Also for your turbo if you want to keep the stock one, here's a rebuilt with steel ball bearings.
Small note about Kill Devil's: their supplied bolts sucked. IDK why but only two would snug all the way down. The rest stopped a quarter of the way. I used stock ones instead which worked perfectly. Not sure about their bolt supplier but their in-house products are great!

I would suggest Powerstroke specialty. Also known as powerstrokehelp on youtube. They can do the work right and put upgrades no one else can. However they are in Buford Georgia. But if you want it done right go there.
