Dig her out of the corner

Ok after 4-5 months of the 66 hiding in the corner of my shop it’s time to work on it I wanna upgrade to power steering first and I have the idea on how to do it, I have a guy wanting to sell me a automotive column gearbox and pitman arm off of a 1971 f100 he wants 175$ is that a good price? I’ll still need to get pump and brackets and lines, my truck is a 66 f100 with the 352 and automatic trans

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the '66 conversion, but I found this video online that may help. $175 seems like a pretty good price if the '71 box is nice and tight and doesn't need rebuild. I think that the '71 will allow you to use your stock steering wheel as the spline count is the same from '61 to '71, I believe.... That's a plus. I am putting power steering on my '62. There is no off the shelf kit for it, so I am kind of making it up as I go.

Not a bad price IF the box is in good condition. make sure he gives you the firewall bracket with it. Scroll down for a quick look at firewall brackets. Flashback F100's - Steering Column Parts & All Associated Parts with Steering (flashbackf100s.com) You may find that the engine brackets and pulleys are harder to find than the column.

Depends if you just want power steering that works or if you want it tight like new. Hard to believe that a 50 year old box wouldn't be worn unless a low mileage truck. Redhead and Blue Top will sell you or rebuild a box to be better than new. Not cheap but both have very good reviews.

I can attest to this. I've purchased two Red Heads and they are worlds better than anything else out there. Also, if you try yo buy a remanufactured (spray and pray) it likely wont fit. After going through this on my '65 I found there are two different gears for the same year model and one of them will not fit, it will hit the manifold. Guess which one is the only one available? IIRC it was a V8 vs. straight 6 thing. So I took my old spray and pray and shipped it off the Red Head and never looked back.
You will likely have a bigger problem sourcing the correct pump/bracket/pulleys to do it right. I pulled everything off the donor vehicle(it was a car, Torino maybe? too long ago). You wont regret the upgrade though.
