Rear view mirror question

Hey folks,
Look at the attached pics of the back side of my rear view mirror. Does anyone know if this thin black strip that runs from the left side to the middle is like a covering/protector strip that needs to be removed? I can’t tell if it is something that should have come off at PDI or if it belongs?

Looks like tape to me. I'd remove it.

They are closed already… figured one of the folks here could look at their King Ranch, Platinum or Limited rear view mirror and tell me what they see?
