Alot of guys use 1/AWG or 0/AWG and I am not familiar with 4/0 size but after looking at the dimensions I don't see why you couldn't, as long as it is nice clean copper wiring and you have lugs to accommodate.
I am sure some smarter people will be along shortly.
If it’s leftover and you are not going to sell it, replace all the main battery cables with it. It certainly isn’t needed at the alternator to battery connection. The only change I would make at this time would be to run the drivers negative directly to the engine block, and add an extra 8ga from the drivers negative to the ground connection by the drivers fender strut mount.

I was trying to use what I have. Justify the junk pile for my wife I've read both ways that with my 190a alt I do/don't have to upgrade the wiring. I saw your youtube post and appreciate. The upgrade kit indicates a 1/0 add on wire from the alt to fuse/block to battery. Bigger than your post. Will the 4/0 alluminum wire be ok for an add on top off?
