I've been thinking about getting a new truck, and am leaning toward vinyl seats. I have two young kids and they tend to be pretty messy. For those of you who have the vinyl seats, how durable are they? Do they hold up as good as the cloth seats? The pictures I've seen of them, they look really good, almost like leather.
I have 4 messy kids and I almost went that direction too but stuck with fabric and then got carhart fitted seat covers. They were expensive but I am happy with my choice. I just removed them to wash after a long trip and my fabric is perfect.
I was advised by a friend who sold cars that although vinyl has come a long way and sometimes almost seems like leather, it is just hot and sticky in the summer and still gets hard and uncomfortable over time.
My dealer told me it also has a big negative impact on trade-in
No matter what your choice my understanding is that katskin is about $1500 installed in a crew cab (don't quote me on this) so its not too astronomical to change them out later.
edit: lol, I just re-read my own post and it is certainly filled with a lot of hearsay and maybe's... but its an internet forum so I guess that is about what any of the advice is worth
Had vinyl bench seats in the previous truck. They wear great and can be easily cleaned - sold it after 11 years and the seats cleaned up like new without the wear-through most of my leather have had. Hotter than hell in the summer.
I've had vinyl seats in several work trucks and, as others have mentioned, they wear great but they are HOT in the summer! I'd opt for the vinyl floor for easy clean up but stick with cloth seats for comfort and invest in a set of washable seat covers to deal with the mess.
