Bittersweet day yesterday as I watched my old truck go down the road to it’s new home.. Though I have no regrets, there is a part of me that will miss the old boy..
It’s been an interesting 5 year journey and I’ve learned a lot about myself and old Ford trucks at the same time..the biggest thing is, I’m not a “project guy”. I don’t have the patience it takes to see something like this through.. I loved my truck and really enjoyed driving it, and “tinkering” around with it the first two years. In retrospect, I should have just left it alone and drove it..
I was excited the first year I started the “restoration”.. after that it was a downhill slope to yesterday.. I really have no regrets about seeing it go..
What helped immensely was that it is going to a good home.. A young, energetic CAR FAMILY, with the knowledge, drive and resources to get it done.. It’s going to be the 16 year old’s driver initially but “Dad” has bigger plans later on I think.. He might lose it to MOM though, because she seemed to be the biggest Fat Fender Fan!!
I told them about the best, most helpful Webpage ever, so if they show up here (and I think they will), I know you will be as welcoming, supportive and helpful as you’ve been to me over these last few years..
Thanks again to all of you!! You folks are the BEST!!!
Bob, that sold fast! I hope the new owners come to FTE.
I understand how you felt overwhelmed with the restoration. I admire guys that tear a truck totally apart and then put it back together. I don't have the patience for that
Glad you were able to see it go to a good home. Sorry you lost the drive to finish it as it looks so promising but better to see it finished by someone else rather than be hidden in some dark forgotten corner collecting dust. I know a guy who has had a 49 F1 for 40 years and blown in pieces for about as long and even though he'll never do a thing with it he won't sell, keeps saying he's going to do it some day..Hope the person who bought it keeps in touch with you..
I am about the same. I like to tinker but I dont enjoy the restoration process. I enjoy driving it. That is why I called a shop this morning to weld in new cab corners. I will never get to it and if I do it won't be done right. Find one that is done, buy it and enjoy it.
Glad you could give it a new home, rather than setting it out in a field somewhere to melt into the earth. I have to pace myself. I've learned that I have to section off a project into smaller sub-projects, and keep a positive momentum. Even then it can be tricky.
