I have a 1990 f150 custom with the 302. Trying to get the ac back going worked before the leak now wont. At the switch and connector on compressor there is only .22 volts is this normal or is there an underlying issue that i need to trace down?
Well it won’t just work if it leaked it out,
leak has to be repaired
once repaired, you need to properly prepare the system which has a lot of important steps for longevity but the short one is refrigerant to factory spec on truck label, see if clutch works and send it with a short lifespan
also, you have a 1990. If you lost the original charge yiu need more r12 which is speedy or convert to r134a or another unrecommendable alternatives for fill
thenonce Done you would have working ac assuming you have no other issue..clutch won’t engage if low ok refrigerant
There is a switch on the dryer that basically cuts the AC when the refrigerant is low. Most of the time, it has to be jumped with a paper clip to close it and that in turn sends a signal to the compressor to engage. That is why you have near to nothing at the connector on the compressor.
If you have repaired the leak, pulled a vacuum and ready to fill, then jump the switch at the dryer and it will engage the compressor.
I had converted a while back before the leak came about. I fixed all leaks with all new components. Vacuumed system for 2 hrs let sit for a while (everyone has their own opinions on how long thats what i did works for me) charged the system but ac clutch would not engage. Did a voltage test at compressor plug and the one one the drier only .22 getting to each plug so there power not alot. Went inside the truck took out climate control messed with that found it had separated so squeezed it together moved the switch to ac an bam ac compressor came on now waiting for that part an hopefully ill be riding in ac for a while

yay that’s a nice happy ending. Hold your applause, I know, not all heroes wear capes. But happy to do all the work for you, citizen.
