Transmission identification?
First picture will be the gas engine, second and third pictures will be the transmission that was mated to the gas engine and the forth and fifth pictures will be the transmission that was mated to the diesel engine.
there is also a small tag on one of the bolts on the back of the t18 or t19 transmission from the diesel, I took about 6 pictures to read all the numbers if there needed I can post them.
What do the shifter sticks look like? The NP435 stick is the real curvy one. The others are longer and straighter.
Yes, the shifter arm is very curvy, doubling back on its self twice, smacks the dash in first almost, kinda thought it wasnt right. The transmission in the diesel is one, red (where the other one is just the metal grey) and two fairly straight with a single curve in it. Fits very nicely in the truck lol.
As far as gas or diesel i don't know, I've read and heard the major differences is just the synchro first gear in the t19, and some different gear ratios. But as to which came in a diesel and which didn't I'm not knowledgeable with that, and remember the 82 gas was originally an auto, could that be why they put the NP435 and not a t18 or t19? Because it would fit where the others wouldn't?

Looks to be an NP435. The number cast into it, C13894, appears clearly in other pictures here on FTE. The top cover should be aluminum.

Looks to be a T19. All synchro. First might be 4.02 (from diesel) or 5.11 (from 460 gas).

Shifters come straight and are bent to fit when you buy replacements. Factory bends---might vary by year and model.
Usually you can bolt in any one of those as a replacement for the other.

Thank you! That clears up alot, and also opens up alot... specifically the mechanical to hydraulic clutch conversion, how difficult is that and what would it entail to convert "mechanical slave" to a "hydraulic slave"?
To go from mechanical linkage to hydraulic, you just have to bring over the brackets that hold everything, and MAYBE the clutch fork if it's a different length or design.
This covers most if not all the ground on the subject:

As you may previously know, I'm using the whole diesel system, so the engine mates to the bellhousing, but the 82 I'm putting it in has a mechanical clutch where the diesel has hydraulic. I have everything for the diesel system I just don't know how the transfer of the hydraulic clutch will work.
