I am really missing my 05 all the years of owning that truck and it never once left me on the side of the road. It towed are 5th wheel thousands of miles! We live in MD, pulled to Florida, Outer Banks, Western Carolina, Poconos, West Virginia, the list goes on! We retired the truck at 390k. At 405K it popped a head gasket and I sold it. Even then, I drove it 15 miles to deliver it to the fella who bought it.
We loved our new DRW 6.7 tow rig when we bought it. It pulls like there is nothing behind it. But now in the last 6 weeks, its been towed 3 times.all the same issue! Low fuel preasure, reduced engine power. To the point it shut down.
the first go around, I change fuel filter(That were NOWHERE near due) and no start. I had to pull the line from the secondary filter to get it to prime. Still no start. Towed to my Mechanic, when it came off the roll back he started the truck and drove it into the shop. He ran full Diagnostic, flashed it with the updates, kept it and drove it for the week. Problem never replicated, I picked up the truck. Two weeks later, leaving my home, problem reoccurs. Again, replace file filters. No fuel to the secondary filter, has to be the lift pump right......go to Ford, pick up pump, install, cycle key 6 times, long crank but the truck fires and off we go problem solved. Two weeks later, an hour from home, low fuel preasure ruled engine power truck shuts down. wife brings me a new set of filters, truck won't start. $375 tow bill and the truck is back home. For sh&%s and giggle I go try to start the truck. I turn the key to warm the glow plugs, the low preasure fuel pump is whinnng, there is a weird gurgling /bubble sound in the fuel tank. I hit the key, truck fires right up like there is no issue.
we've seen no metal in the fuel filter. Havent dropped the tank yet. Im getting to the point that im scared to death the CP4 is going to fail from being starved for fuel. An $8000 repair is not something my wallet is prepared for. Love my truck but im starting to feel like I shoulda looked at a Cummins. We are a ford family!!!
Do you use any fuel additives? It’s a long shot but I have seen it 3 times when I worked for the dealer. The cardboard seal inside the caps of most fuel additive bottles is the perfect size to block the pickup in the tank. They float around in the tank unnoticed for the majority of the time. Tank level gets low and the pickup draws that piece of cardboard over the pickup, causing fuel pressure to fall away and the truck to die.
As already mentioned above by previous posters, you need to drop the tank for an inspection. Please note the author of the post above. I too, loved my 2016 up to when I sold it in June of this year to get into my 2021.
Also already mentioned above, switching to a Cummins truck won't repair this problem. I really fail to understand the mindset of those who go on about Cummins as though they are the God of diesels.

I do use RevX gold at every fill up. I cut the aluminum foil 360° and throw it away. The problem has occurred with a full tank of full and at 3/4 of a tank

Never owned one, don't really want one! I say this out of frustration! My best friend owns one, I know that truck ha pulled his moster 5th wheel almost every mile i have pulled mine. I know that 6 cylinder makes a hella lot of power and he has yet to have a problem one out of his.. I want my ford to put his to shame i promise you.. im just frustrated and sick to my stomach over this damn issue im experiencing and grimacing at the thought of a high preasure fuel pump failure and repair bill!!!!

What is the mileage on your truck? Did you click on, and read the post in the link above? That was a post I started on another forum that I am a member of, back in late 2015. Before you jump the gun to conclude you have a high pressure fuel system failure, it would be well advised for you to drop your fuel tank for an inspection. Finding that little piece of cardboard disk inside your tank will be the biggest sigh of relief for you.

BUT………inside the cap, there is a cardboard gasket that “can” fall out and into your tank if not watched closely. THAT is what you want to look for, not the aluminum seal.

Truck just rolled 80000 miles.. indeed I read it and my fingers are crossed!! We are going to pull the tank for sure. We had plans on replacing the tank with the S&B 70 gallon tank so I'm on the fence......thinking I should get it here so I only have to do this once....but thats money that may be needed if I don't find an obstruction......
