CHMSL cam while driving

Hey folks. Anyone heard/know if the CHMSL cam in the 3rd brake light can be made to toggle on while driving, so you can check bed loads? Didn't find anything doing a web search. Would really a usefully feature so one could check loads, tie downs, etc.
Thanks for the help!

Bert,

We have the 360° camera system with five cameras on our MY2019 truck: front, left, right, CHMSL, and tailgate. My understanding is that none of these cameras are operational when the truck is moving forward at >5 mph.

I believe later MY trucks work a bit differently. For example, see the “Camera Views” section in the page below from the MY2021 OM.

HTH,
Jim / crewzer

Thanks Jim. Mine is a 21, but I don't have the 360 system. Just tail gate and high view(CHMSL). I've pushed the camera button while driving forward to no avail. Was hoping there was secret combo's of button taps or something to make it show the high view. Kinda bummed I can't get that view to check the bed while driving.

Sorry, Bert. My understanding is the 2021 360° Camera system includes the same feature described above. I’ve not been able to find a comparable feature for the plain ol’ CHMSL + tailgate combo.

Safe travels,
Jim / crewzer

The bottom line is FORD. gives us a 360 camera system, wich is USELESS and to make it worse the rear back up tailgate camera has the worst pic in the industry it is the = an old B&W TV with with cheap color. I have my replaced it was WOR$E than the old one. My wife has a Jeep Gladiator with the tailgate camera and its in HD! Looks as good as my TV

Thanks guys. Maybe they'll be a hack at some point letting us non-360 package folks use the high mount, but not counting on it.
Pic quality is fine enough for me. But having a rear view cam is a new thing for me anyway. Gets the job done. Just seems pretty dumb you can't toggle it on given you can't see the bed at all from the drivers seat.
