Transmission cooler

Is there a secondary transmission cooler added to trucks with high capacity tow package over non high cap package?
the little cooler between engine and transmission seems inadequate for summer time 12k to 18k towing

There is no front mount cooler, the transmission cooler is under the truck near the transmission bellhousing. The cooler is the same on all the trucks with the 10R140.

Wow. That appears to be really weak as transmission coolers go.

I like big thick plate and fin coolers in front of radiators.

It is a liquid to liquid cooler instead of liquid to air. That is why it doesn't have fins and is not in front of the radiator.

Seems very low to me, comparing this to other vehicles is not a fair comparison. These units use Mercon ULV just like the F150 and ULV requires the use of a thermostat to keep fluid got enough for service. Between 194-221 degrees is normal operating temperature. You can go up to 245 degrees under heavy use just fine.

So then you probably like the intercooler upfront also. There simply is no room for either upfront in the size needed. The efficiency of a stacked plated water to oil cooler or air is why they are used. The cooler in the picture is rated for 43.5k GCWR. That cooler if you were to replace it with a air exchange unit would need to be somewhere near 18x22 (396 sq in) minimum.

yup, that is off of my F450 is your F250 will be fine. Even towing in summer Southern AZ temps didn't faze it at all. Ran about 210-215 trans temps, some as an unloaded run would be. Was around 27K GCW.

Trans temps with the 10R do run hotter on average. I frequently see 215 unloaded. Cooler is pretty effective though, seeing within 10 degrees of that when towing.

oh nevermind me, I had a brain fart and forgot that those were water to oil.

Thanks, just seemed high.
my bus runs 210 religiously, with water to fluid heat exchanger. But we are pushing 32k pounds.
