Check your fluid levels on new trucks.

So bought a 2020 F350 back in November. Put it into service in may.

I’m kinda ocd about maintenance so I changed the engine oil and rear diff at 1k miles, debated doing the T-Case but thought no it’s just a chain case really, I’ll leave it till 30k.

Well 8,000 miles later it’s really bugging me so I say what the hell let’s change it, it’s cheap anyways.

Manual says 2.2 quarts of Mercon LV, I pick up 3 quarts and off to the shop, get there and drain it, about 1.1 - 1.2 quarts come out… ok interesting. Refill it and it takes 2 quarts.

So it was only filled a bit over half way, glad I didn’t just leave it.

It isn't in the least bit o c d to change oil after the engine has been broken in, it's actually diligent.

I totally understand the oil change I do mine at every 3000 miles ( 5000 kms ) iam OCD about this as well

But the rear diff fluid being only filled a little over half way from factory is hard to belive, I'm not saying it wasn't, but I'm a little shocked reading this.

you got me thinking if mine could be only filled half way from factory as well?

Is everyone going to run out now and do a rear diff fluid change on their brand new trucks after reading this?

The rear diff was fine, it was the transfer case that was half filled. It doesn’t leak, only explanation I have is that it wasn’t filled at the factory.
