I am preparing the truck to take a two week trip and I am taking the truck in for some routine services at the dealer. (I had posted about this a couple weeks ago referencing oil changes)..but I considered servicing the transmission, since I am not sure if its ever even been done. I looked at AAMCO's services and they have this for a 4x4 tranny.
Draining and refilling the Transfer Case with fresh, clean fluid.
Draining and refilling the Front Differential with fresh, clean fluid.
Draining and refilling the Rear Differential with fresh, clean fluid.
For 4X4's with an automatic transmission, perform the AAMCO Power Purge Transmission Flush, a 100% total transmission fluid exchange for automatic transmissions, available only at AAMCO.
For 4X4's with a manual transmission, drain and refill the transmission with new fluid.
Plus a complete TranScan check to spot any potential problems before they happen.
The truck currently 109,xxx miles, do you guys think this is a good idea? I know how expensive these trannys are to replace so I want to do whatever preventive maintenance would help!
If nothing has ever been changed, I would go for it. If the transmission fluid has never been changed at 109K, check the color/smell. If it doesn't smell burnt and isn't black, go ahead and change it.
In the era of synthetic fluids the intervals are getting much longer, so check with the manufacturer for UPDATED recommendations.
In some cars transmission and differential fluids are considered lifetime and lot of new differentials don't even have drain plugs.
Still being new owner of truck with 100k I would do the transmission service.

Thats kind of along the same lines I was thinking...
