There are no disadvantages to removing it, unless you consider more power, better economy, and a way cool sound to be bad things. 
As far as clamping it back on goes...check your local laws, most states don't require cat's on diesels in the first place.

As stated above only good can come from removing the cat. Their is only one thing, A friend of mine went and traded his 95 PSD in on a new 6.0 PSD and he said that that was the first thing they looked for upon trading it in. He would of had to paid to replace it if it was gone. I took Mine off and and knock the guts out of it and put it back on. Best of both worlds I guess???!!!
