Diesel Exhaust Filter

On the way to Colorado from Texas the engine tried to regen several times before showing the check engine symbol and wrench symbol. The dealer up here says the exhaust filter assembly is plugged and needs replacing. I have the Ford extended warranty but they are telling me this work isn’t covered. The price is $6100. Does anyone have any experience with this problem.

Geez. That’s a lot of coin. How many miles on truck? Best option would be to get rid of it. Another option would be to find a used one local to where you are. They can usually be had for $400-1000 used.

The filter is part of the emissions system. Depending on mileage I would think it’s covered.

Emissions Defect Warranty

Emissions Defect Warranty Coverage

Well, according to your other post, your truck is beyond warranty coverage.
And, yes, the extended warranty expressly excludes the DPF Diesel Particulate Filter, just because they are so expensive to replace.
Your choices are limited, pay the dealer the 6100 and go on with your trip.
Find an independent shop and get a used one installed.
Get it towed home and do one of those above solutions.
The DPF can be cleaned and put back on, but not many shops fool with the ones from pickups.

Keeping on driving with the clogged DPF isn't a good option, it will eventually not be able to keep going.

please verify the code that they are telling you. Dont' give them this info in case you are covered by it.

If you have the P2002, this may assist

Thanks. I was excited when I saw this but then saw it’s about trucks built after May 2017. Mine was built January 2017 but I’m going to ask about other tech memos.

well it was a shot in the dark. Please ask them to check oasis for any TSB/FSA/recalls.

Be sure to get the exact codes that it is producing.

Doesn't sound like a good plan.

And, trying to do a delete brings its own problems these days.

If I read it right, the ESP plan that folks buy and spend about $3k for doesn’t cover your filter?

No, the extended warranty expressly excludes the DPF.

The fix at the dealer is to replace it, list price on the assembly is very high, probably 5K or more.
