i have a 2001 ford x w the 7.3l in it. it has abt 300k miles on it, the other morning i notice it started misfiring, i drove it to and from work and it’s still abt the same, it gets worse and misses harder in 3rd and 4th gear, it misses while idling in gear, it smooths out but is still noticeable in park, i just changed the oil (rotella t6 15/40) i checked the icp which only has 10k miles on it, some oil on the connector and little to no change when i unplug it, i do have an oil leak on the high pressure oil crossover line, but that’s been there way before i’ve had this problem, fuel filter looks fine, fuel pump is pretty new and looks fine, it doesn’t blow any smoke even on start up which leads me to believe it’s not a fuel starvation issue. any thoughts? i could really use some help on this, it’s my first diesel and i’m still relatively new to diesel motors. thank you!
I'm sure this will get moved to the 7.3 forum but since you're here:
Do you have power loss? Could be your UVCH. You can check the ohms from the valve cover connectors before you dive under the covers. Not sure if this is a symptom of the CPS, from what I have read, that will usually leave you dead in the water. Do you have a service engine soon light on? Get a code reader/scanner, run injector buzz test on forscan.
See my thread in the 7.3 forum, it may offer troubleshooting. No Power 2000 7.3L Excursion There is a lot of info on this thread. Even if this isn't your issue, if you search your symptoms in that forum several other will come up with good info.

it does seem a little weak when i give it some rpm, but i can’t tell if i’m down cylinder or if it’s just the vibration, if there is powerless it’s minimal, but no i don’t have service engine light on, i’ll be sure to check tht forum when i get home, thank you

My understanding on the OBS Ford's are that the Light wont come on, and it will just feed more fuel to the other cylinders. This is what the service manual stated.

After driving it to and from work today, i don’t feel any loss in power, just the heavy miss in 2nd, but mostly 3rd and 4th gear. However it does seem to be blowing a lil more black smoke then usually even when easy on the pedal (40-50%) i also forgot to mention that this morning it felt great for the first half mile of my ride, after that it rode like crap again.
I'll second Builder Barnes and recommend you get some hard data on this rig. Here's a thread to help you set up FORScan to read codes and monitor ICP, IPR% and many other parameters of this engine.
