OT: What is this thing?

This was left to me by my mother. She knew I thought it was cool when I was a kid. Yes, I liked old stuff even then.

When I was a kid my dad said he thought it was for leatherwork. But I don't know if that was just a WAG, or a SWAG.

Any ideas?

It's some kind of clamp that opens like a pair of tweezers.

It is a clamp for stitching leather..https://www.bing.com/images/search?q...mageBasicHover

They are used with the base on the floor and the jaws are held between the legs with one jaw to the left and one to the right. The leather is held in the jaws vertically so you have to stab and stitch horizontally left to right or vice versa. You need to sit on a stool to get the leather at a comfortable working height. They are held together by a bolt with a wing nut to allow adjustment on the jaw.

I was sure someone would come up with something.

I guess I should have Googled or Binged "Leather Clamp". I was over thinking it.

Thanks for the answer. Sorry I don't have a prize to give you.

I watched that video, John, expecting the leather worker to sew a couple of pieces of leather together. Boy, I was disappointed. Good thing it was only 3 minutes long!

Sorry, no.

No one else wants to take a shot at it?

I'll give one hint. Although he always had a full time job, my dad was also a farmer. In Kentucky.

Is it something to a disk or a plow? Like a scraper to scrape mud off the disk?

Winner! It's an old style tobacco knife. It was used for cutting the leaves, not the stalk.
