My 17 year old son recently purchased a 2011 Ranger. Today he called me at a gas station. He had just fueled up and started the engine. He said the brakes were locked up and he couldn’t move. Also the battery light, oil pressure light, and check engine light was on. I told him to shut it off and take a peak underneath the truck for leaks. He said there were none. I told him to restart the truck and he said everything worked fine and he had no warning lights so he drove home. I’m thinking electrical issue but where do I start? Anyone else had this happen?
Truck is 2011 Ranger XLT 4WD Automatic 4.0 V6 with 140,000 miles. Truck has spent all of its life in the south and is not rusty.
Seeing as how he said the CEL was on when it acted out, if the battery hasn't since been disconnected, (which would erase codes), there should be a trouble code Number clue stored in KAM. So you might jump on this Learning opportunity, by having him use, borrow, or come by the inexpensive but powerful CAN enabled, ELM scan tool & run FORScan diagnostic freeware (that's Tweaked for Fords), on the viewing device of choice, as discussed here Low Cost ELM Scantool - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com), as this combo can access & query All of the vehicle computer / controllers for set, or pending trouble code clues, or live PID data feeds if need be.
Then post All code Numbers, or PID screen shots, as they can help focus a trouble shoot. Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.

Thanks for your response. I don’t have Forescan but I do have a scanner that has live data capability as well as many other functions. There are no codes stored and no codes pending. I’m thinking at this point that it was probably a one time anomaly due to the varied issues. Time will tell.
