Yeah I've found new take off covers from an XLT crew cab for reasonably cheap, might go that route. Also found a headrest for an OK price. I'll need a new foam from Ford for the drivers side cushion though.
Rock monkeys (miners) got into it, that's the problem! It's got around 2500 hours, it's never been on a highway in its life, and obviously lots of idling.
Good thing on the diesel is hopefully they went by the IOLM oil change light. Its 33mph per engine hour so its still fairly low use for a 4 year old work truck. You know damn well the fuel filters are nasty and I would be careful when replacing them.
An Upholstry shop can do the seat foam.
I got a low mile 6.2 recently at a salvage auction. Almost passed on it once I saw the hours at around 6000. Interior was better than that one but not much. We were able to clean it up ok. It was owned by a paving company and someone stole it which is why it was eventually auctioned by the insurance company. With the low miles most everything is pretty tight though, engine is a tad slower than expected but works fine.
Fuel filters had definitely been done at least once since new since the electrical plug was damaged. The filters themselves were pretty clean, but I still did both filters when I changed the oil.
We have lots of 6.2's at work, almost no diesels. We've had a couple drop valves before 60k miles, lots of other high mile high hour engines going strong though.
Started ordering parts today. From the dealer I placed an order for the following:
- transmission cooler lines,
- rear shocks,
- rear most exhaust hanger,
- rear sway bar end links,
- drivers side seat cushion,
- and, drivers side headrest.
I also picked up some new take-off covers from a set of XLT seats on eBay for $270 USD. So for roughly $500 CAD I'll have the seats looking like new, and I'll probably spend another $100 or so for a new take-off jump seat to round it out.
I tried getting some new shock mounts for the rear axle, but they only come as an assembly with the whole axle assembly. I'm just going to repair/fab up some new mounts instead. Both rear leaf springs are shot too. The dealer wanted $1100 per side for those, I'm just going to get them repaired by a spring shop. Still waiting on the OK to go pickup the new take-off cab which is the next big purchase.
That poor truck sure got the crap beat out of it. I can't imagine that the cooling system is working that well given how clogged the radiator fins are.
Thanks for the reminder, I guess this one is due for an update. I've got most of the parts from the dealer, but the TC shifter is on backorder for IDK how long. The eBay seat upholstery also came in, and they're mint. I'm still waiting for the OK to go pickup the cab and hopefully a whole new set of wheels and tires. Lastly, I bought a factory service manual off eBay which was a great buy for $10.
As far as work on the truck, I've got the rear body almost ready to pull. All the electrical is disconnected as well as the fuel and DEF fillers. I started pulling the bolts for the body and realized I should power wash the underbody first, which I did. That lead me to swapping out the transmission lines since they started leaking really bad. I had been trying to convince the mechanic at work to help me do the lines, but things didn't work out. I ended up swapping the lines as the truck sat on the gravel, no lift. Per the FSM I pulled the oil filter and oil filter housing off and that made things possible. Disconnecting the old lines from the front cooler was a pain without the right tool, so I had to order one off Amazon and finished the job up tonight. Anyways, here's a pic after I took the truck for a drive around the yard after finishing up the line swap.
Just curious is it a salvage title ? or clear? if its salvage title you have no warranty at all, the only thing ford will do for a salvage vehicle is safety recalls.

Does anybody have the fender and door removal procedures handy? Looks like the FSM I bought covers the steel body trucks, not the aluminum ones, like it was supposed to.
I've been busy the last couple of days. Got the old body removed last night with the help of a buddy and a crane. I have a guy coming to pick it up tomorrow night if everything works out.
This morning I got up at 3AM and went to pickup the cab and a set of new take-off wheels for the truck. It was a 4.5 hour trip there and another 4.5 hours back but at least I got home at a half decent time. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to fix up and in what order. Not pictured bellow is the hood since it was still in the box of the truck. And yes, for those with keen eyes the truck will now have a 2021 front end on it.
