OEM coil spring dimensions

1973 F100 4x4 1/2 ton standard cab. Original engine was a 2 bbl 360; current engine is an FE 390. Original transmission was a standard, now it’s a C6 (automatic).

Problem. I replaced radius arm axle insulators (c-bushings) and pivot bushings. Decided to replace springs, also (old, rusted, and has aftermarket spacer on bottom of spring). Advice from this website recommended Moog CC814 variable rate coil springs which I have on order, but will not even ship for a month. Even though the moog website addresses “fitment”, specifically identifying cc814 as fitting my truck year, make, and model, and the heavier engine, I’d rather not shut this project down for more than a month, waiting. Oreillys tried selling me precision coil springs (SP08130), based on their claim that they are “identical” to the moog cc814 (except that they are constant rate not variable. But in researching it further I found Oreillys own website says these springs wouldn’t fit my truck.

That leaves me with LMCTRUCKS, because I won’t buy anything that doesn’t specifically say it will work on my truck. Now see photo below.

Continued…

And then this photo….

Ok? So here they are using 3 part numbers in 4 categories (don’t ask): “A” STD, “A” HD, “B” STD, “B” HD. The first two are “73-76”, the last two are “76-79”. “A” means before serial number B25,000 “B” means from serial number B25,000-on. If the serial number is contained in the VIN, then mine starts with Q66xxx. See the problem? The year says the correct coil springs are one of the first two. By serial number, it’s one of the last two. Like, a 73 has a serial number from 76-79?

LMC offers limited ability to detail specifics needed to determine which, if any, spring is the correct one. But they did say that the uninstalled (uncompressed) height of the first coil listed is 17 in, and the other three is 18 in.
The height of my spring (including the aftermarket spacer, which I assume is shimming the old spring back to spec height) is 17 in. But I’ve no idea whether age and wear has reduced it to 17 in or not. So do I assume the first listed spring is correct?

So, to find a spring on LMC, or anywhere else, I think I need the OEM spring dimensions in any category that applies? Anyone know? Sorry. Thanks!!!
