I have a 1989 f150 with a 302 v8.I have been having engine issues ever since I installed a 6in lift and the U joint gave out causing the driveshaft to fall out and break/bend the transfer case and transmission.
I have installed new cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs and the part that the middle wire on the cap connects to,sorry I forgot what it is called.it will dial ok but has no power and try’s to die when I push the pedal.it hardly makes it up hills and has smoke coming from the engine oil cap.can anybody help?
Did the engine performance decline after the lift or after the u-joint broke? Did the engine over rev as a result of the u-joint? What work was done to the engine prior to the issues? How did it run before the lift etc?
With your 6 inch lift did you install larger tires? If so, what size?
Break and bend the transfer case and transmission? Are those replaced?
You have a lot of stuff going on here, including the possibility that your engine is worn out.

it ran fine before the u joint gave out and it used to rev very high when first started for about a minute before u joint but now it doesn’t even do that.I had just bought the truck and didn’t touch the engine becaus it ran ok.I have replaced the 4 speed transmission with a 5 speed and swapped out the transfer case and extended tail end housing same tire as stock
Since nothing you did improved things, it suggests some internal damage like bent valves or a hole in a piston. Does it run smoothly but have no power, or do you have a rough idle and a miss?

it’s idles just fine just no power when you put it in gear.1 or R
Check the timing. Pull the distributor cap and rotate the engine by hand. Once the rotor moves, reverse rotation and note how many degrees the crankshaft moves before the rotor moves. SBF timing sets wear out and you can be off a tooth and still "run". If there's much slop in that chain, it's time to replace the timing set.
