Hello, picked myself up a 2002 Excursion XLT and thought i would introduce myself. My rig came with door open light. So i tested and each door/rear door showed ground when closed and open when open just like it should..
So this points me to the vehicle security module... While testing, I had the plug pictured above unplugged from the VSM and noticed my door light went away.. I did some research and found that i needed the the VSM programmed.. Well i didnt get a rid to mess around with software.. So i cut all the door wires (pins 4,5,6,11 and 12); this worked great, my open door light was off and i can put bulbs in the dome lights without battery dyeing... But all is not well, i turn off my key and the radio doesnt stop playing.. Its looking for drive door to be opened.. I then make a ground wire and pin 4 to a switch that is normally closed.. Put this switch between fuse panel to door panel and bam, door is open music stops.. Showed them..
I stole the pinout from https://www.justanswer.com/ford/1k3u...-electric.html unfortunately i only have the one diagram... I am guessing that some cars with the VSM switches works in reverse and thats why the VSM needs programmed..
I am not new to programing and even downloaded the software to program the VSM and have my as-built data but the software wanted a key code an i couldnt find any free ones so i went this route.. My other car is a BMW which is a software *****; i am running my own tune with methanol injection.. Only good thing about that car is i have every wiring diagram and diagnostic software is free.
This is the rig now, done a few things... Put on roof rack, wheel arches covers and cleaned up the double sided tape.. That was fun..
