Smart or Dumb?

Well, it's been near 2 months since I bought my used PSD. I would like some opioins on whether I did the right thing with my buying approach. With price being a factor, I decided to look for a truck(99 or newer) that had quite a few miles on it with the though in mind that I might get it bought for a few thousand dollars less than one that had 20 or 30 thousand miles on it. Found a 02 SD with 90,000 miles on it (the one in my signature). The truck had been on the ground for only 17 months. Got to talk to the previous owner and got all the facts about it. It seemed to be well cared for and even smelled like a new truck inside. A like truck with 50,000 miles on it was priced $5,000 higher than this one. I understand that this engine with proper care and mantinince will run up to 300,000 miles. I hope that the rest of the truck will go that far. I'm sure there will be some needed repairs on either the engine or chassis. I'll plan on running it for at least 10 to 12 years and hope the body doesn't rust away (I'm VERY particular about apperance) and by that time it should have around 250,000 miles on it. My question.....will this $5,000 "discount "come back to haunt me in the future? Was my buying approach smart or dumb?

One advantage you had was that you were able to contact the original owner and quiz him about the PSD.
As long as he was honest with you about the PSD maintenance, etc. then it sounds like you got a fair deal.

You'll get plenty of miles and use out of it.
Your PSD is just getting broke in!

Probably Highway miles

If you are lucky that 90k miles is probably mostly highway travel. And if the original owner didn't tow heavy loads you basically have a new truck. Most everyone will agree that a nice trip down the freeway is usually much easier on the vehicle than around town driving. I used the same thought process when I bought my PSD.
