looking to get new rubber and was looking at the new Nitto Terragrappler. anyone have comments or opions on these tires? i plan on getting bfg's but these looked pretty neat and more streatable then the bfg's MT or AT and seem to still be good enough for the trail. let me know what you think. i want to stick with the 235/85/16 only b/c their prob better on fuel and keep the engine from falling out of OD on hills, but if im goin big im goin 285/75/16 on stock rims.
DS59F100, the wider tires cause more drag and add resistance to your vehical causing the engine to work harder to get up those hills. i think larger gears help with this but also kill your fuel economy, its a win-loss situation.
Have you looked at The Tire Rack? I just bought some Yokohama Avid ST for my '83 E-150 and got a good deal. Also they offer a customer rating board for tires. You can find them at; http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/index.jsp
bddo, have they been used in snow, ice, mud, sand?? how well did they perform? do they tend to grab everything in the road like the bfg AT's? would a wider tire smooth out my ride or not really? also i noticed you have the matching Rancho Steering stabilzer, was it worth it, or did you not see to much of a differance from stock?

BigDawh54,
I haven't had the tires on ice or snow (not much of that down here in Houston!!!), but, I've had them in the sand, and on slick wet pavement. They have handled alot better than I would have expected. I tow a 29 foot travel trailer, and they do very well, especially in rainy weather.
I don't really think that going wider will smooth out your ride, but that's just my take.
I noticed a tremendous difference from the stock stabilizer to the Rancho. The stock one was shot when I replaced it. The biggest thing I noticed was that the truck didn't try to vear right or left in heavy cross winds near as much as before. And, as always, it looks great with the matching Rancho 9000 shocks...
I re-shoed my F-250 @ 75 miles with a set of Nitto Grapplers 295/75/16. They were cheaper then the BFG’s, and I liked the look. I had a set of BFG’s on my last truck, and I loved em. But after the first mile, I put my worries to rest about this tire. They made a worlds of difference compared to the stock 235/85/16’s. Mine are mounted on stock rims for now, 3.73 gears, and I have plenty of clearance without a lift. In mud, I’ve found that they clean themselves better then the BFG’s. I also think the ride is quieter. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of people that like nothing other than BFG’s, but I’m very satisfied with the Nitto’s so far.
thanks for the insight Mike_V10 . i really need better rubber before winter hits. im also looking at the new General Grabber AT2. seems like a good tire, just came out so nobody seems to have much info on it. i also had the bfg's on my last truck and loved them but their prices are getting a little high, especially with my payments and gas alone i def cant afford them since im still goin to school and workin part time. so it looks like i might go for the nitto's or these new grabbers. take a look at them and let me know what you think. www.generaltire.com its called the Grabber AT2.
