Please help with an engine swap

I have a 1981 F350 dump truck that blew a head gasket that cracked the block. This was a rebuilt 351 m and I would like to exchange the motor to keep the truck until this shortage is over and used trucks are more available. The problem that I am having is the lack of motors in 351 or 400. What would be needed to put another engine in it and which engine would work. This truck is mainly for farm work and hauling junk.
Thanks Nick

well I would check out car-part.com I have no idea where you are located, but there seems to be at least a few 351m's available. I'm in South Dakota and the closest one to me is 140ish miles away.

You could put any engine in there if you got the transmission with it. Or the bellhousing if it's a manual transmission. A 460 would bolt to the motor mounts. It would bolt to the 351m bellhousing but you would have to check for flywheel clearance. Or just get a 460 bellhousing if the 460 flywheel rubbed.

Whatever engine you get, just make sure it's a rear sump style oil pan.

Thanks I was told that the 351's and 400's were just about gone. I have a manual trans so a 460 may be the way to go.

None of those engines are made anymore. But at least the others were stopped in the late 90's. The 351m/400 engines stopped production in the early 80's.

I can see from your profile that you’re in PA. I’m in the south Jersey area and have a used 351m. It’s missing some parts, but all in all a good motor. It’s your if you want it.
