Hi. Just got my first Amcar so everything is new to me.
I have a 302 EFI. It starts fine bit suddenly it idles like crap and then dies. This happens during driving aswell. I need to put some pressure on the throttle to make it run smood. But then it idle is too high.
ant tips? I was thinking some vacuum issues but dont know all the parts or where to look
i found a black box with one hose thats not connected anywhere.
What is this box for? There is also a smaller box right next to the battery with two hoses.
You can also use starter fluid to ID a vacuum leak. Have a buddy spray it around the base of the carburetor and along the vacuum lines with the engine running. If the idle surges when you spray the starting fluid you've identified your vacuum leak. Be aware that this is a fire hazard though. Have a fire extinguisher handy.
I'm not sure what that black box is. I can tell from the second picture that your battery cables are toast. Eventually you'll want to replace your battery cables, that wouldn't cause your poor idle though.

Reason: Ooops...

That loose hose is a vacuum leak. The red hose next to it is the vacuum supply from the manifold. The black box is a reservoir to hold a constant source of vacuum for the EGR and AIR systems. The loose black hose should connect to a tee in the EGR solenoid but it is broken off. part of the tee fitting is in the loose end. The broken fitting is under the wire circled in red. There is a sticker on the radiator support with an outline of all your vacuum line routing.
