Superduties on Order

Hey all, just a heads up. Ford is deconteting new orders right now for 2022 SDs. Adaptive steering is being omitted from high end new builds. I am sure because of the chip shortage. I have a 2 X 2022's on order a F250 7.3 gas Tremor Platinum and a F350 Limited. My sales guy got a message from Ford. I asked him if they could be added after the fact. I guess I don't care as long as I am not charged. I don't think this feature is going to affect my overall existence. can't help but feel like all vehicles build from 2020-2022 will have a cloud hanging over them....

I specifically did not want adaptive steering, so my cloud will be fluffy and bright.

Seems like Ford is being proactive here, a nice change from simply not building trucks. Everyone has the option to cancel should they deem that necessary because of an unavailable option or options. How does this cause a cloud to hang over them?

Adding adaptive steering afterward is super expensive, takes a different wheel and a module, big bucks.
Guarantee you that Ford won't pay to add it for you.

Did he happen to say when this will go into effect? Wonder if the people already scheduled with AS will still get it?

I don't think there is a cloud. I ordered my wife a Mercedes SUV a while ago. The sales guy was telling me when we picked it up that the new S Class was shipping w/o some features as well, like the full massaging seats because of shortages. I think manufacturers are making choices.

Me too, especially after seeing how much it cost someone on here to get theirs fixed when it crapped out.

I have only two concerns:
1. When am I going to get my truck?
2. Quality Control
  • Plants opening and closing, shifts changing and Covid requirements make for a stressed and unhappy work force resulting in human error. I took a Covid related early retirement form an airline. I have a clue what the line workers are experiencing. It can't be fun. My last days at the airline were rough.
  • Parts coming from new sources, particularly semiconductors
  • Cost and availability of all kinds of parts - I don't think the Tremor/XLT or the AS issues are related to semiconductors.
It's going to be hard to build error free trucks with all this in a state of flux. ESP looking better all the time.
If this is the cloud you speak of, then yes, there might be...

I did not order it this time. I did not like the on center feel at highway speeds. Slow and vague IMHO. My son's XLT feel's more precise when towing. It was great in a parking lot on the F-450 but that's about it.

It really doesn't sound like I am missing much w/o it. Just need to make sure I am not paying for it.

Any chance you can share the message that Ford sent to your dealer? I just asked my dealer about my 2022 Platinum on order with Adaptive Steering, and they havn't heard anything about the decontenting that you've mentioned on the adaptive steering.

If they deleted it from your order then it won't be on the invoice or window sticker.

Adaptive steering is optional equipment on the Platinum and standard on the Limited (at least the last time I checked). So there shouldn't be any listing for AS on the Platinum window sticker. The Limited should have some amount of credit shown on the window sticker for the missing AS. The credit likely will not be as much as the price for the option on the Platinum.
