Installed my hyrda tuner last night, started the truck afterwards and everything worked great! Tested high idle tune and confirmed it works fine. This morning, PATS completely disabled my truck. (2000 7.3 Excursion) the theft light was solid on. Pulled chip, reset PATS, runs fine. What the heck???
You have to program the correct tune for an Excursion, the Super Duty does not have PATS.
Even though it worked and ran fine after install yesterday?
Going to the shop for a rear end rebuild tomorrow and I'll have them disable pats, should it work fine then?
You have to load tunes that have the pats setup.
here is a video that shows how to select times that are compatible with the pats system. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=up8-z7bm2MM
the video should walk you right through the process.
Sounds like your tuners dont know what the crap they are doing, where did you buy it?
I just looked up your PHP Hydra, they had an almost identical chip for the 99-04 mustangs, plugged into the same socket. absolute garbage, inconsistent results, glitches, etc.... Even had the switch to change between tunes easily, too bad it worked like crap.
I sent the damn thing back and switched to SCT Handheld tuner, no more problems, everything works the first time, every time, and no having to add or remove any hardware from anything, it just plugs into the OBD port to change tunes, un plug it and drive away, changes are made directly in the ECM.
Those chips alter live data in the ECM while it is processing, think of them like a hacker, or automatic hacking device, re-writing things on the fly, where as SCT writes the tune directly into the ECM, so it runs just as if the tune was there from the factory.

I have the same vehicle, only issue i had was the blinking theft light, even with pats tunes, i resolved it by unplugging the pats

with the sct can you tune on the fly or do you have to stop and download it to the ecm, also is it preset or can you select and download from a tune library
You do not switch on the fly, but it only takes a couple mins to switch, you stop, turn off the engine, plug in and pick the tune and settings you want.
Different tuning companies do different things, but generally, they are happy to give you for example, a towing tune, a street tune thats more peppy, and a performance tune that is geared towards going fast, and they can also do even more beyond that depending on what you ask for. The handheld for example if you get an X4 has USB, and builtin WiFi capability so you can use either method to push tunes onto it, and it keeps them in its internal inventory and allows you to name them as you see fit. If the tunes additional options are left open by the tuning shop, which i always ask that they are, then there is a bunch of extra settings you can self adjust, to tweak and adjust things to your liking, such as shift points, Fuel options, shift pressure, and some others, depending on the trucks options.
I have 3 tunes i keep handy, the SCT generic V10 tune, its actually better than stock, a bit more pep, but tame and doesnt destroy the mileage, then i have the towing tune which keeps the RPMs up drops back a gear a lot earlier when slowing to keep the rpm closer to power band, and during takeoff holds the gears longer so you get more rpm and power down to the road. Then i have the 5 star performance tune, im iffy on this one because i can smell the fuel its using a lot of, and its only a slight bit better than the SCT provided V10 tune, but it does offer better shift points. 90% of the time i run the SCT provided tune for mileage reasons, when im towing and the trailer is not empty, i pop on the towing tune and go just fine.
What tunes are you running? Canned, or modified injectors? I've had zero pats conflicts with my Hydra chip and PHP tunes. You need to go to the PHP site and download the HYDRAFLASH link so you can look at your tunes already on the chip, you may have to alter, or re-download the tunes again with the PATS Equipped option selected.
If you don't want to pull the chip and bring it to your PC, you can buy the USB cable to connect to the chip with a laptop and still installed on the PCM.

Here's the tunes I have loaded.
They're all php stock tunes, nothing custom at this point. The theft light blinks like crazy and disables the truck from starting, but when I unplug the chip it works immediately...
Later today I'm going to pull the pcm again and clean those terminals again with alcohol. All this is so strange. I installed the chip Saturday night and started the truck up, it was just fine and switched tunes... The next morning it was no good.
Hello, I'm experiencing the similar symptoms on my 2001 Excursion 7.3. Just installed the Hydra and won't start. Have cleaned the contacts twice. My Getting constant theft light. It even flashes slow when key is not in ignition. Using only Pats tunes. Getting tired of taking the chip out. I have big hands. No fun. Did you ever get a resolution to your issue?
