I am looking into swapping in 05 superduty axles in my truck. I have read and watched lots videos and convinced myself into it. My current ttb is ok but steering box and ball joints are on their way out. I have driven lots of newer superduty trucks and the steering and ride quality are much better.
Anybody have any recommendations or experiences on axle swaps?
Not sure where you're located, but there was a guy near me who was making coil-spring swap kits for obs trucks while still using the obs axle. I think it only works if you have a Dana 60 though...
I have looked at different options, swapping in a obs Dana 60. Cost are similar but I think you get a lot more for your money with the superduty axles. Plus availability of superduty axles are much more plentiful. I was able to find one close to me on marketplace 05 with 4.10. I went Sunday and removed everything from truck. Was able to get everything with axles springs, steering box and linkage, mounts and drive shafts for $1000.
Axles are in good condition and can be used as is. I will probably go through and inspect everything and install fresh seals and oil.
Went through the rear differential this afternoon, new axle seals, parking brake shoes and wheel studs. Took the cover off and inspected the ring and pinion. Everything looks new even the fluid looked like new, also confirmed the gear ratio and limited slid differential.
