Yes you could disconnect the alternator to see it in the battery discharges overnight or a few hours. Using a meter in-line with a battery lead will tell you the same story in seconds.
I was curious that is why I asked. I'm not that tech savoy when it comes to finding where the source is. I did watch a video from Eric the car guy and he was showing how to do it and to use the negative side for the test being a safer route. I would have to chance run it to Harbor freight for a cheap but decent tester. I have had some good advice and help in here and that I really appreciate. Its rough job hunting in the middle of having problems with your transportation so funds are very limited at the moment. ( Not that this has anything to do with the truck). The only thing right now that has been replaced is the TPS and the short drive of maybe 5 to 10 minutes or about maybe 6 to 10 blocks. The truck shifted good and no codes or engine light so now to get this issue fixed will allow me to drive it longer distance to make sure the slipping is gone. I figure if I can repeat the distance and it does good, then I'm good but if it act up then I will replace the module where the shifter is on the transmission. As I said earlier the shifter down by the brake was real loose so I fixed that so it wont come back again.
Ok, This is an update to the alternator side. I did a quick maybe 15 to 20 minute drive to get a couple of things and came home. Did notice the gauge drop some but not a lot. I let it set for around 4 hrs still connected to see what the numbers were. it was 12.99 when I first checked upon coming home. While running 13.40 roughly. Well let it sat for 4 hrs and went back out to check numbers again and it was down close to 11.00 roughly. One thing I did notice it was pretty hot to the touch but the motor was cold (everything to the headers). I'm beginning to believe the alternator is or is going bad because all the lines from it look fine with no damage. To be safe. my daughter is going to be here tomorrow so I will take it to be checked anyway. This truck doesn't have anything special like electric windows or things of that nature. I bought a better meter to do the checking but will see what it does after test. anything or suggestions welcome. Thanks so much for the help given.
