I have a 1972 pickup with a 351c in it. I am wanting to put a 460 in it's place. I've been reading alot and saw this web page. My question is this, The 460 came out of a station wagon (not sure what year) tranny included, what all is needed to make the change? Stands, mounts etc.
Seems like evey since I put it in I've had problems. The dist keeps getting striped when ever I really get into the gas. I've had spring and lifter problems, over heating. Just getting tired of working on it.
look for a radiator out of a 68 to 77 ford school bus it is the same width as the pickup radiator but is taller so you have more cooling if you have a automatic get a radiator out of a bus that has a allison aotomatic my mechanic is doing a heavy duty swap for me and i know the radiator fits
I just measured the 77 that had the 400m and it appears to be the same as my 72 that had the Cleveland in it. I measured center to center and back to the fire wall, both are the same. I measured the tower height, same. Does anyone know for sure if this will work? I think it will work after I change the motor mounts and manifolds from a truck 460. I'm thinking, just go to the auto parts store and get a set of 1977 460 truck motor mounts and drop it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
get a set of 352 to 390 truck towers and bolt them to the 460 motor mounts set your motor in the truck move the 352 t0 390 towers in position and drill new holes in the frame and bolt them in the holes should be forward just a little bit leave the towers loose then adjust them
Well, fellas I can tell ya how to take a 460 out of a 1972 f250 4x4 that originally had a 360 in it and put in a 1999 7.3 liter powerstroke turbo deisel in its place. still have all conversion stuff to make the 460 bolt right in. But don't see myself going back down that road! Good luck and Good wrench'n
I put a 429 in place of a 302 in my '72. I bought some mounts that bolted right to my stock 302 towers. I dont remember the name of the place but they specialize in old style broncos and engine swaps. They cost around a hundred bucks but they bolted right in. I wouldnt know about the tranny because I used a pickup C6.
