I’m sure there are threads on this subject… but on a quick note, when my 450 arrives I’d like a cover that allows easy use of a gooseneck hitch when needed, and one that offers food weather and security protection. I’ve been eyeing the hard ro;l-up that Ford offers,…any thoughts or sugggestions??
Personally, I ordered the new sliding hardcover Ford is offering. On my F350 CCSB SRW, I used a Bakflip MX4 and it worked great with my 5er.
I had the Bakflip MX4 on my F-450. No problem folding if you're in the truck but it's a bit of a reach over the fenders and that last fold on the long bed is a little heavy when you're arm is stretched out. I'm going with the canister roll up type for this reason. Not too good if you need to put something in the bed in that space. I don't.
I thinking about editing my build as the cover Ford is selling looks like the RETRAX, and $1,695 is a good price for that cover in a Long Bed. The only reason I'm hesitating is that it will negatively impact my CCC sticker and I want the biggest number possible at time of print.
Remember, the Ford branded tonneau covers are nothing but aftermarket covers with the Ford logo and name.
So I called Bak and asked them about this and they said this wasn’t true for them. They said another company named Rev makes some for Ford but then I read in some random post that Rev was part of Bak, just a different name and only sold parts for OEM builds.
I ordered the Ford hard folding tonneau and really hope it’s a Bak because I want the Bakbox but am not sure what I will get….
Also as far as the CCC sticker mentioned above, I assume you are talking about the sticker in the door with the payload. I’ve asked this before and the general consensus is that aftermarket parts aren’t included since these are sent offsite for installation. I also have a console safe in mine, but I don’t expect the sticker to reflect the safe or the tonneau. Regardless, my first stop will be to top off fuel, then to the scales.
Good info. The BAK hard roll up looks to be about the same price from Ford as from other suppliers I looked up, and I like the Ford logo added.
When I search for REV I sure do get a lot of BAK filtered in…. They look to be at least in some way connected.

I've had my BAK hard roll up for a few years now and will transfer it to my 2022. I found it was one of the very few tonneau covers that played well with a TracRac ladder rack system.
After a LOT of research I decided to go with the BAK Revolver X4. I live in Canada and the Retrax and other like it that have a canister don’t work well once a bit of snow or ice get in to the slats.
I had a tri-fold version before and it was decent but I didn’t like the fact that it rested against the cab of the truck, and the last fold got heavy from the ground.

You will love it! Had one on my 18 250 ccsb. Ordered a new one for my 21 450. Great product and if you have any issues they are quick to address it.

Ford does show REV as being the maker of some of their folding covers. Visually, from the few pictures I have seen I can't see an obvious difference between the REV product and BAK. 4 panels, same type of latches, same prop rods etc. I too couldn't find much information on Rev, other than like you said, only sold through the vehicle manufacturers like Ford and GM. I sent an email inquiry to Bak industries on the subject, no response.
Truck Hero is the parent company of several bed cover brands, including BAK, but they don't show Rev as being one. Kind of a mystery for now.
I had a Bak revolver for a couple years on my '13 350 DRW. With my '21 450, I chose the Retrax.
None of these are perfect in terms of design or quality. I loved the Revolver for looks and ease of use. However, the felt hand protectors on the underside fell off almost immediately, leaving a very sticky mess. Also, it kinked from traveling rolled up for extended periods while towing my 5'er. Bak replaced it under warranty, but the second one suffered the exact same problems.
I don't like the canister of the Retrax, but it is definitely more secure, seems more durable, and is also easy to use.

The fact that yours “kinked” when rolled up for extended periods of time concerns me. I generally have it unrolled and covering the bed of the truck, but when I use my quad or tow a fifth wheel it will be rolled up for extended periods. I already purchased ot so I guess I’ll have to hope for the best!
