me and my dad were arguing about this last night, I was talking about putting some 31x10.50,s on my 84 bronco, it's a stock 302, 3.55 gears and a 4 speed. he said that it would kill it and it would have no power. now it already aint no powerhouse, but it'll get up and go.
Unless you plan or Drag racing that thing, 31's with stock gears and even stock rims would not hurt your Bronco. It will drop off some of your low end though, but with w/ 302, that should be plenty of power on the street. I know quite a few people that run 32's on stock rims with 3.55 rears in their F-150's and it doesn't seem to slow them down too much.
I kow both sides of you and your dads argument. I have heard and said both myself. The only thing you need to remember is who's truck is it and if it's yours, do what's gonna make you happy. No offense to your dad though...
31" is not all that big, you shouldn't have a problem. my 77 has 33's with 3.50 gears and i didn't feel a differnce but i also have a little bigger of an engine. but 31's won't hurt a thing.

im glad my dad didn't read that! but I guess it sounds good, I have some old bald tires thatt are the same size as a 31x10.50 that I will toss on the back for a few days to show him that it wont hurt the bronco, i just cant put it in 4 wheel!
you should have no problems with 31's, if you do you have one guttless motor. my 86 chevy came stock with 31's and it will get up and go fine with a crappy 305.
I have 40's on my bronco and all it has is a small comp computer cam plus the stuff below! I went to Woodburn Dragstrip and beat a completely stock 3.0L V6 Ranger 4x4 extra cab away 3 times. So yeh you'll have no problem with 31's, mine came with those stock "GOODYEAR WRANGLERS!"
I have a 83 bronco with 3:50 gears and 33" tires with a 4 speed and still cant really use granny low except offroad so I cant see you having that big of a lack of power with 31's, I guess it depends on what you want my truck is a truck to beat and wheel and haul crap. for the type of driving and offroad I do I may even try running 37's or 38's it will mean I may get more then 15 feet in first gear befoe red lining lol. if you can try it, try it if you like it keep it, have fun
I have 33's on my '91 F150 with the stock 3.55's and they didn't cause much of a noticable power loss. The only time I notice them is going up hills but that's what downshifting's for. I don't think 31's would make hardly any diffrence at all.
My 89 Bronco w/351 had 32's on it with 3.08 gears when I bought
it. Ran fine, etc., and was happy (relatively speaking) with the mileage. But, when I put the 35's on I did make sure to re-gear it!
actually this bronco is mostlyfor a daily driver, so its gotta be tame enough for the road, but when I hit the trails, i dont want to be left behind, which most of what we have here in northeastern colorado is some good hills, trails in general(the easy way to get a 49 *****'s in the air), and alot of loose sand. but my sister stacy and brother in law billy live up near steamboat springs, so me, billy and a couple of his buddies are trying to make plans to go four wheeling up there in the mountains. im not directly looking to out-do every one(especially not billys strait axle chev') but dont want to be left behind if you know what i mean.
My 1990 Bronco 302/AOD came from the factory with 15x8 rims and 31x10.50 tires and even has it on the door post sticker. I am currently runnig 32x11.50 tires on 15x10 rims with no problems.
