Looks like they still were using the earlier parts on the 64/65 4x4's I thought maybe that truck had been swapped around a bit. I learned something new again.
They left out some numbers and letters on the VIN. K is not an engine it is Kansas City assembly. Do you suppose that was intentional to hide the fact that it is not "all original"?
The K is in the correct place and makes sense for Kansas City. The character before that looks like a 0 but it should be a J=240, B=300 or D=352. I'd guess it is a D but they either thought it was an O or a 0 or its a typo. 352 would be trivial to swap with a 390 but the 4WD trucks used a different front mount for the 6 cylinder than they did for the V8 so that would have been more work. Possible, but my guess is it is likely a D engine code.

I missed the O somehow when I read it go figure getting old.
Looks like it sold, anyone know what the final number was. I just sold a 65 F100 factory 4x4. Lots if rust but it sold within hours so I probably didn’t ask enough for it.
And yes the 4wd trucks used all kinds of wrong parts. Bed is known as the “wrong bed” but it is factory. The steering column, pedals, and floor pan is also wrong for 65 but it was all factory. I guess Ford was just using up old parts they had laying around to build these trucks.
I also forgot that it used the wrong inner fenders for 65. Ya the 4wd trucks were all kinds of backwards.
Well that's not really the case, these were not "wrong" parts. There are no "Twin I-Beam" 4x4s, the cab changes and fenderwells were due to the entire front end being changed. 66s also had the same stuff as the 64/65, earlier slick bodies fit right on as well but they have lower roofs. These were not leftovers or mistakes, however the bed is used because of the wheelbase, I would concur that Ford could've done quite a bit better upgrading the beds as they never matched the cab lines and were really leftovers from before the slicks.
