My Tailgate chains are messing up my paint, anyone seen a replacement latch?

They sell repro chains with covers. And they sell just the covers.

Now to put covers on your current chains you have to pry open the hook, take it off, slip the cover on and then squeeze the hook on again

Thanks Abe, my truck is so far from stock I'd like the hidden latch system. I have re-pop chrome chains that I bought 40+ years ago.

I am using a bike tube skinny tire type for covers.
I made 2 and put a hole bottom center so water can drain out. I have enough tube to do think 3 or 4 sets if I need to.
Tube was a few bucks at Walmart

Oh I did not need to open any hooks a links to fit them on.

Mid-fifty has several types of hidden latch systems in their catalog. Which is better is probably personal preference.

Even if the chains are covered, if you drive the truck a lot I'd expect it to leave wear marks on the paint.

I have an original set of chains with the rubber cover that I am not using. I can post a picture if anyone is interested.

Regards, Mark

Somehow I ended up with a spare set. This thread prompted me to go look, and I found these. I think all original.

Do you have a picture? I’m trying to visualize it but can’t and I would like to do the same thing.
