Transfer case//actuator
This info i copied years back and has been helpful! On my Bronco (1992) the-computer(processor board) is located in the kick panel passengers side .Testing this is easy and lets you know if the computer is bad or the actuator(shift motor).Of course i have never seen a post stating the processor board was bad. There is a two wire harness attatched to the left side of board, remove this harness, cut ignition switch to acc ,now push white square button on bottom edge of the processor and it will turn on a red led right next to button .If this led flashes this means you have a problem with the processor board ,if the led stays bright this means you have a problem with your actuator motor assembly.
As mentioned in many posts the culprit has always been the actuator(shift motor),I know i have cleaned mine a few times , BUT ALSO electronics do go bad Good Luck TR
