351W hoist points

Working on a 91 F250 with a 351W in it. I'm trying to find points to affix a hoist to in order to pull the motor. There an obvious one - beefy metal bracket - on the front drives side of the motor. However I don't see a corresponding one on the aft passenger side. Any suggestions?

I never liked the idea of putting all the weight of the motor on the intake manifold, and I don't know that the bolt holes in an EFI lower are designed to be uised that way. And of course there is the issue of finding a lift plate that will fit this intake.

A no cost option would be to get another factory lift bracket from junkyard motor and bolt it on at the opposite corner, of just remove the rear most exhaust manifold bolt and attach a piece of chain with a loinger bolt and washer.

Meh, I've been pulling motors with Carb Plates for years, Big Blocks, Small Blocks and everything in between, if it's in a V configuration. Unless you're trying to use it as a wrecking ball once you've got it hanging, I see no reason to fear for the strength of the manifold. Fabbing up a lift plate isn't that big a deal, all you need is a couple of flat plates of steel, a drill, and a welder. If it's that concerning that you think the EFI lower won't handle it, just drill it to use *all* the bolts, not just the 4 corner ones.

I had a steel plate made with all the holes drilled to use in lifting the engine from the lower intake. 4 bolts threaded correctly and long enough should be able to lift the engine adequately.

I use two lengths of chain across front & back tween the heads. Then my balance rig or single chain between those two.

Although after a junkyard pull with seat belts, for pulling without damage, kinda' hard to beat em' on stock manifolds.

Just adding to this thread for others who follow. I bought a PT W41042 that fits on the lower intake of the 351W. In the picture you will see it has 6 bolt attachment points. The original bolts are too long due to the holes in the intake only being approx. 1 3/16" deep and the intake itself being deeper than the 3/16" bracket thickness. I bought it because I have JBA shorties installed so the original front lift bracket has gone & this seemed the path of least resistance. I must admit to being a little hesitant putting all the weight on the intake but I guess its spread out and will be ok. Still prepping for removal. I'll have 11 ARP studs in the intake as one of them broke off in the head. I'll likely put larger washers on the studs.
Not sure that's really necessary.

Did you just attach the std. hoist hook to the center hole in the plate? My radiator support is 48" off the ground. Estimating engine depth at 2 ft suggests clearance needed at 72" (might be slightly lower). With a HF 2 ton hoist going to 89" I'm not sure whether there's room for a sling or leveler. With this type of bracket it does not seem necessary if one hook through the center hole works.

Yes centre with nothing attached to block, no trans, no alt. no a/c, no p/s, only water pump.
Use the rear most hoist with trans attached.
Wish I had a picture of lifting complete engine with trans, using only ratchet straps, one around the back of engine in between trans, and the other weaved around the alternator bracket with a/c and alternator still attached, and upper intake.

To get more height, remove your front tires, lower the truck onto blocks, just make sure you've undone everything first from underneath.

I just use 2 polyester slings and lift with the exhaust manifolds. I've pulled a 460/C6 together using seatbelts around the manifolds. Obviously get as close to the head as possible.
