I filter the water before it gets into the trailer with an inline filter. Then I have a whole RV filter inside the trailer that is more restrictive. The one inside the trailer isn't anything special and is probably redundant. Since I don't use the water in the tank or from the street for drinking, the filters are there to keep particulate matter out of the system.
I have an in-line filter that works for both city water and filling the tank. It’s a single “whole house” filter that is available at Lowe’s, HD, etc. I also have a pressure regulator set at 50 psi.

So what do you use for drinking water ? Water out of PLASTIC bottles ?

I bring a 2 gallon Igloo jug of water from home. Then refill that from a 7 gallon jug that was also filled at home. We do supplement with disposable plastic water bottles, as needed. Those get recycled.
Ingestion of plastic from those plastic water battles is a higher risk than the filtered water from the campground
I'm rarely in a campground. Most of the time my running water is coming from my 120 gallon fresh water tank. It takes a lot of water to sanitize a tank that big.
My in camper filter that looks like a whole house filter was a pia when doing antifreeze and changing it out in spring. The on winter that was so cold it was below the antifreeze 50? below capability it broke, nice mess. I bypassed and now were unfiltered and carry what drinking water we need. Just what we do.
I use an inline and will use the fresh water tanks too. I don't see a problem with it as long and the water is fresh and you sanitaze the tanks as needed.
We bring gallon jugs of fresh water for the ice maker though.
Last year I switched over from the cheap Camco inline filters for a more robust 3 stage water filter system from Clearsource. The Ultra system uses a 5 micron rust filter, then a 0.5 micron carbon filter, and then finally a 0.2 micron filter (although they recently changed the 0.2 micron filter over to a "Virusguard" filter). Anyway, after doing this we have been happy just drinking from the faucet with this set up. When I was backpacking I drank water filtered through a single, small 0.2 micron filter and it served me fine (and I have collected some water from some pretty nasty places...), and this system is no different. However, for kicks, and because we will be traveling much more soon, I also added in an On the Go double water softener this year. Besides this, I use good quality food grade hoses. I will likely pick up an under the sink filter that uses ceramic filtration sometime before we start traveling too...
For water that goes into the fresh water tank, I have a bottle of Purogene (chlorine dioxide) that is good for cleaning the lines and the tanks with, and can also add in small amounts to the entire fresh water tank when filling to help clean the water. (If anyone has ever used Aqua Mira while backpacking, this is the same stuff.)
Tap water around here is so good I don't filter at all. If I was travelling to unknown places, I'd probably start worrying about it. That three stage filter system @chadstickpoindexter has is really nice, and I'm sure it does a great job.

All I can say is WOW !!
You should be able to drink water out of a mud puddle with that setup !!
