Hi Guys, Hate to do it but here is another Vacuum line help post. I have been reading, searching and downloading to no avail. I have a 1981 E350 chateau MH, I thought the Tartersauce53 / Gary Lewis post would do it but apparently all Ford Vacuum line diagrams are different! Diagram from hood Vehicle info What is this, looks like it's needed? Smog pump plugged off. View from front The 3 ports on back side are open? zap it?
I believe I just need the dist. vacuum advance, brake booster and? I will post some pics and if one of you vacuum line gurus can shed some light it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
First question, do you need to pass smog as this will make a difference on how to move forward.
This is the speed control / cruse control unit and I would try and keep it.
I am sure it needs a vacuum supply to work.

Thanks Dave, The cruise control, duh, I should have figured that out, guess I'm on information overload. I'm up here in Nova scotia so no worries on the smog stuff. so I keep that, the brake booster of course, the distributor advance and what else
How do you determine that? Do you even know what it does? I have an idea, but am not sure about it. Your engine really doesn't have much smog stuff on it. The VVA you have may not even work anymore. What does it exactly do in your application?

I have no idea what it does but looking at the underhood diagram It doesn't seem to control anything vital

I would say most of the stuff that would be hooked to it might not be in place or not working any more.
Think it was said the air pump system has been removed and there is a vacuum line to it so?
I would make sure the power brake booster, dist. advance, PVC, the speed control and HVAC has vacuum to them and pull the rest of the stuff off, adjust timing & carb to run good again.

If I am looking at the diagram correctly, it controls your EGR valve. I have had problems with detonation when I disabled the EGR. If your engine has a pretty good load on it pulling a camper up a hill on a hot day, I would be curious if it does ok. Sometimes taking the EGR out doesn't have an affect, and sometimes it does.

It is a Motorhome. I heard others say the same, but also that affects the 351M more so then the351W. Also that a timing adjustment might be needed. Thanks

Try it and see. One of the engines I was fighting was a 351w. I put headers on it. On the EGR on that engine, exhaust backpressure made the EGR work properly. Since I got rid of most of the backpressure, it would ping like crazy after a ride down the interstate. Would not do it putt-putting around town. First thing I did was retard the timing. It helped the pinging, but it killed the power the engine had. So I put the timing back and then installed larger main jets in the carb. That did not help either. What finally stopped it was to install a 180 degree thermostat in it. But each engine I have messed with seems to be different.
Hi Guys, Just want to say thanks to everybody who pitched in to help. I stripped all the lines and replaced and plugged as per the diagrams, said a short prayer and turned the key. Wow. the old girl is running better then ever. Great Forum!
