just replaced the HPOP and reringed the injectors. Have the glow plugs out and spun the motor over to make sure the cylinders were evacuated completely. Pulled the drivers valve cover to put the glow plugs in and noticed #4 had a film it had shot onto the valve cover. So turned the motor over without the cover and could see a fine mist (from a safe distance of course). Putting the valve cover back on it to examine the film closer, it looks/smells to be a combination of diesel and oil. #4 had an injector cup with a small crack (also replaced all the injector cups) when I pulled it and a failed o ring. I did do a pressure test on the coolant system to make sure it didn't have a coolant leak. Held 16psi for 30 minutes. So I don't believe it to be a coolant leak. Is it possible for diesel and oil to leak past the tip? Other thoughts? It's the only cylinder doing it. That injector also is a dark brown instead of yellow like the rest. Guessing the previous owner may have changed it at some point. Going to see if the local shop can test it in the morning.
Thank you for the reply! I ended up swapping injectors. It's still getting oil in the cylinder at #4, so it didn't follow the injector. No coolant leak. I'm going to check the head bolts. Make sure they are torqued to spec but I guess pulling the head is the next step. Get a better look. Wondering if I have a cracked head.
