i was changing injectors and noticed some coolant in the injector sleeve. i was in a rush to see if tool worked and didnt drain the block. i heard gurgling and figured coolant was entering the cylinder after i pulled cup but then noticed coolant pouring out from behind passenger head. where the heck is it coming from. i got under the truck but could only see it streaming off the up pipe. also there doesnt seem to be a crack in the injector cup or even a hole. anyone can tell me what going on???
The leaking cup may be a microscopic hole/crack that you can't see, or it was leaking around the cup because the sealant failed. Dripping off the exhaust, my guess is that exhaust valve is open and the coolant filled the cylinder and started coming out the exhaust. Means you also have an exhaust leak.
88-350 Yeah i was thinking maybe it was coming out the valve but it was puking out pretty good onto ground. ill get some distilled water after work fill degas see if it leaks out of flange or look for wetness around flange.it was dark out but i made a diy tool and was anxious to see if it worked. if it is an open valve im lucky because it would have all went into the head oil drains and into oil pan.
andym- not degas bottle is in good condition. it had no soot or fuel in it. truck has 330k miles but ran great with replaced injectors. i went to clean injector bore before putting last injector back in and saw green coolant in bottom corner edge of cup.. . i wiped it out with shop towel and almost immediately green coolant appeared in same place. (all with engine not running) i didn't see anything leaking from top edge. I closed off the bottom of cup with my finder and blew hard into it and no leak detected.
If you didn't have any issues with the cups before this, then there really isn't a reason to think they went bad during the injector removal. It's most likely just leaking because you didn't drain the coolant. If you're worried about it, you can do a pressure test on the cooling system overnight with the injectors out. If it holds pressure, the cups are good.
Why are you asking about Dorman cups when a set of OEM cups costs $100?
why drain coolant when only changing injectors? i didnt see coolant in the other cups. im only replacling this one cup
You're right, my bad. I was thinking of what happens when you pull the cups and don't drain the coolant. You shouldn't see coolant if you're just replacing injectors.
I would pressure test the coolant system and see what you get.
I had the same issue. Pulled the injectors and let things drain for a couple of days. I had this in 5 cups days after pulling the injectors...
I saw a crack in one of the cups but nothing in the others. I chalked it up to something I couldn't see with the naked eye (as '88 E-350 mentioned), drained the coolant, and changed all eight cups.
One thing I noted is that there was absolutely no sealant around the top edge of any of the cups. I only found sealant on the bottom where the cup seats on the head at the injector hole. I don't know if that had anyting to do with my issue but that's what I saw when I replaced mine.

i just got under there and up pipe flange is all wet n greasy looking. that cookant going to run right through turbo when i start it. maybe running it with spider off will get it out
brian that exactly what mine looks like less liquid though
I was thinking if using an old injector with solenoid and armature off as an install tool. using the hold down clamp with 2 long bolts to set it in. what do you guys think?
Only clean air hits the spider - exhaust just passed to the downpipe. I don't think a little coolant on the exhaust side hurts anything, but others need to chime in.

Use an old injector as a cup installation tool???
For something as important as installing cups, use the right tool for the job. Don't half-*** it unless you look forward to doing it all over again.
ha. i think it will be ok. it wasnt a little coolant .at least 2 gallons on ground. i thought a freeze plug blew out.the up pipes turn up so the exhaust manifold is prob filled to the flange
wtf you think the installation tools are? one is a relplica injector you bang with a hammer. other is replica injector that does excactly what im going to do. you all are soul suckers. no pros or cons. just its baaaaadddd. sheeple. ....sickening. and yeah im using a $7 dorman cup because 7 is better than $12o
i pulled the cup with $10 tap and .25 bolt. but hey it cant be done according to soul suckers anonymous
