Dual Tank Issue

Having an issue with dual tanks. 1984 F250 with 351w. Has a carb with mechanical fuel pump. Filled the rear tank up with 19 gallons. Truck sat on an incline front side down hill. Went to start truck and all the rear tank fuel somehow filled the front tank. How the hell can this happen? Only place the lines fuel lines meet are at the fuel solenoid on the drivers side rail. Do I need check valves installed or is the solenoid maybe bad. Any ideas…

If you have the 3 port valve, then you are correct, that is the only thing tying the two tanks together. There is a small emissions line on the top of each tank that are tied together on the pass side frame rail. But that is on the top of each tank, and they have roll-over valves inserted in the line. Hard to see that line transferring fuel.

Does your truck have a 3 port selector valve?

That's what my truck has (84 351W 8600 GVW). It is an either/or valve, and connects only one tank at a time to the fuel pump and carb. I wonder if an internal seal has failed and is allowing fuel to transfer between tanks.
