I have a 1955 Ford F100. As far as I know the wiper motor has never been tested. I have converted the truck to a 12 volt system. The wiper motor has three wires coming from it. Is there a way to test it on the truck.? Also since the truck is a 12 volt system do I need to connect a reducer? Also the truck has a ezwire harness. And is there a 12 volt wiper I can readily obtain to install if the wiper motor doesn't work? Thanks I know a lot of questions.
Thank You
Jerry
Hi Jerry,
I picked up a KZYEE Power Probe a couple of years ago to help me find bad grounds. It has a mode where you can activate a circuit to test what is running on the circuit. In this case you can activate the wiper motor without taking it out of the truck. It was around $80 but has paid for itself a bunch of times over. There are other brands and types of power probes out there but that one was highly rated on Amazon. Here is the link to it.
Here is a link on the H.A.M.B. where some time back there was some discussion about this.
Is your motor 2 speed with a 3 position switch? Off, Low, High? wiper motor 6 volt/12 volt
Not sure about the 6v version but I had to test my 12v with the factory switch. I couldn't get it to work with just a power source. Your switch should have 4 connections three for the motor wires and one for power.
You definitely will need a reducer for your 6v motor and I'm not familiar with how changing from 6v positive ground to 12v negative ground effects the equation.
if you're going to buy a new wiper motor, buy a kit. Then you know everything will work together. Just my 2 cents on that one.
Oh yeah, apparently switches are not being produced right now (at least 12v ones) because no one I found had any in stock.

Reason: Add switch info
I have no idea if wind shield wiper is two or three speed. I am trying to find out can I rig up a power source from my 12 volt power and where will it connect to the switch? Also do I wire the reducer before the power reaches the switch ?
thanks. Just trying to see if the motor works before buying a kit>
Jerry
Pretty sure the 6V wiper is 2 speed like the 12V. I'd install the reducer on the power wire going into the switch. The switch has 4 connection points. Three for the motor and one for power.
