Personal observation is how I came to that conclusion. Also a stationary regen runs at 2000 so that RPM is what Ford engineers feel is necessary for a proper regen. I also feel this is why people post about locking out the upper gears and achieve a faster regen just like you do.
My truck regens never get below 35% no matter how far I drive it. It regens a lot., Seems to go from 70% to 100% in less than 75 miles.
Every truck is different. Mine usually goes down to 25% on the dash. It also depends on how it is driven, I've had regens only go down to 60-70% after towing my 8k travel trailer. The reason is the weight of the trailer will cause passive regenerations but the 500 mile countdown is still in effect. So when it goes into a regen due to mileage it doesn't need much time to clean so the percent on the dash doesn't drop much.
70%-100% in 75 miles appears to be a bit excessive to me. The truck will auto regen every 500 miles and 500 / 10 = 50 miles. In a nutshell the soot load should increase 10% every 50 miles unless your towing moderate to heavy loads.
I only se when a regen starts on my 2015 and miles per gallon drops, know it is finished when miles per gallon increase, pretty sure the manual says to drive at 40-50 miles per hour to clean, at that speed about 1200 rpm. I have noticed a drop in power when this is going on and also takes longer to clean at less than 50mph. I may try dropping a gear next time if at lower speed.
