fuel filter?

maybe i need to take a better look at my truck, or perhaps the search archives, but if anyone can just answer this quickly that'd be easier.. i am not seeing a fuel filter in my engine compartment perhaps it's in another location, near the gas tank?... any info? or perhaps the guys that rebuilt the engine before i bought it were to stupid to put a fuel filter in at all.. seems unlikely tho.

They don't have a inline filter unless it was installed. The filters they have was a small filter that screws into the carb. I always replaces these filters with new ones as a to get there backup or to catch anything that may pass thru a inline filter I install. So I'm sure since you can't find the filter, They just used the dinky little filter that you'll find screwed into your gas inlet on the carb.

do that and check for others...the others could still lead to a problem later on, if they are already clogged.

Some fuel pumps have a fuel filter on the bottom of them, it looks like a small spin on oil filter. I think this is one of FORD's better ideas.

I've always gotten rid of the in-carb filters and installed 2 in-line filters.
One goes into the rubber line that comes right out of the fuel tank - it keeps crud out of the fuel pump.
The other goes between the fuel pump and the carb, just to catch anything the first filter missed. I re-do the steel fuel line so that the second filter is below the balancer. That way if there's a leak, it goes on the ground instead of a hot engine.
I like the clear type of filters so it's really easy to see if there's anything in the fuel.

I just went to the Ford Dealer in town yesterday and ordered a new filter for my truck. I have the filter that screws into the carb. I was told by the parts guy that he doesn't show a 1979 having that kind of filter and they list this model year as having an in-line filter. 1978 and down came with the screw in type.
Just what I was told, So I am assuming that I have an older carb on my truck.

BTW the filter was $6.49 at the dealer

Just for the record, JoeBlow, my 85 had a screw in type filter. Both my 77 and 78 do as well. Did the dealer mention that Ford went back to the screw in type after 79? Just curious.
