APIM REPLACEMENT

I have a sync 3 issue with my 2018 F150 XLT. To make a long story short, I am probably going to need to have the APIM module replaced under warranty. I have the current APIM programmed to my desires using FORSCAN, but it is now malfunctioning, even after reset etc. (Not due to FORSCAN settings, but a well known BLUETOOTH fault within the APIM ).

When my dealer replaces it, I assume it will be with a new unit already programmed with my as built information. If so, I presume that will remove all the FORSCAN changes I made to my APIM, and I will need to re program the new APIM to my desires using forscan. If I need to reprogram it, must I do so line by line, or can I reprogram it all at once from a copy of current FORSCAN settings I have saved to my pc? Also, are there any dangers or issues I need to be aware of when reprogramming?

Thanks for any help.

Well just upload the stock APIM .abt file and select write all. It will bring you back to stock. Next on the new APIM upload the modified .abt file and write all. Pretty easy to write all at once.

Thanks, that sounds like an easy way. Bulk uploading the modified settings should reduce the possibility of errors too.

Do I still need to upload the stock APIM .abt file if the dealer (or factory) already installed the original abt. settings in the new module? What settings is the new APIM likely arrive with when dealer receives it, original abt. parameters or something else? Is it dealers duty to install abt. settings into a blank unit before returning vehicle to me? Fortunately I have an excellent relationship with my local dealer's service dept., so FORSCAN modifications I made should not be an issue.

Something else to consider is that if the problem you’re having is not consistent or happening when you take your vehicle in for warranty work, the dealer will not just replace the APIM because of a problem that is known to happen to some but not all owners.

If the tech can’t duplicate the problem after looking at it for an hour or so, more than likely they’re going to send you on your way.

Also, since you made changes via FORScan, and if the Ford software sees this, be prepared for the “possibility” that your warranty claim might be denied because they can say the FORScan changes caused your issues.

I’m not sure if they will view this the same as an engine tune but it’s something to think about.
