Good morning everyone. I have a 1995 f150 5.8.
I want to build a 408 out of my 351w because I want a few more horses/torque when I'm towing and to have some fun when not. I want to upgrade to an aftermarket efi system and remove all smog junk and clean out anything not necessary. End goal is to have everything still work inside the cab and play nice with no check engine lights. QUESTION:
Big concern is I don't want to loose my abs so how integrated is that into the overall system or is it a stand alone system. Also what other systems are going to get in the way. Lastly am I just completely wrong in thinking it can be done and I just need to start from scratch?
thanks
The ABS system on your truck is for the rear only, Rear Anti-lock Brake system (RABS). There is no intelligent connection between the RABS and the powertrain control computer (PCM). No issues converting to an aftermarket EFI system in reference to the braking.
I think the easy way to get where you are wanting to go from a control angle to use a PimpXshift computer from Stinger Performance. This way you use the stock equipment you already have and make minimal changes, which should help you keep everything happy. You will still be able to delete the smog equipment. Folks on this forum and the NLOC forum have been very pleased with this product.
