Remember the 2001 ford explorer? It wasn't the tires fault. Why did ford change the payload stickers? Just because it's rated, doesn't mean it's safe.

Back when I was a kid, I remember hearing that published truck tow/haul limits were rated at 80% of actual capacity by the OEM's, as a safety limit, knowing that many users would meet or exceed what was published.

Don't know if that's true or not, but it would kind of make sense as a CYA move.

Where has regulation worked ? everywhere. we can't survive without it we just have to know when we have enough.
Sorry, my herd mentality is broken after the covid fiasco, remaining self centered and taking care of myself. My family members are all capable of the same, we certainly do not need any more regulation. I think it is tragic that you believe such policies work. I find that attitude to be our countries biggest failing currently. Can't survive without it? Oh please... Maybe you can't.

most of the studies i have read showed a mixture of blame between Firestone and Ford. They even show that a strike at the Decatur plant may have increased the problem due to poor QC and an increased production schedule. the design of the tire was considered by experts as being flawed allowing belt separation. the design of the explorer also had a role in the rollover issues as well as the 26 psi recommended tire pressure from ford vs the 30 firestone recommended.

Agreed. The 'Nanny State' mentality and looking for big government to save us from ourselves is leading right to what Nikita Khrushchev foretold at the U.N. 60 years ago when he beat his shoe on the podium.
