Another Excursion tracking/wandering problem.....
First post for me and glad this forum exists! I've been trying to figure my wandering issue for the past year while white knuckle driving when towing and almost sick of it. I've tried many of the forum suggestions and need help on what to try next. Here's some history:
- Purchased our '00 V10 LTD 4x4 EX 2 years ago with 125K.
- 85% use is towing a 9,000lb boat
- Changed/added the following within a few months of purchasing:
- Added Hellwig rear sway bar. Currently on stiffest setting.
- R/R shocks with new bilstein 4600s
- R/R steering stabilizer with single bilstein unit
- R/R steering gearbox with redhead unit
- alignment performed (regretting not asking for the alignment report)
- Firestone rear airbags added and set to 50 PSI when towing
- Towing was not so white knuckle-ish at this point with the 50% tread, stock size Cooper AT3 LTs @ 75 PSI rear, 65 PSI front
- Changed to 18x9 rims -12 offset with Goodyear Ultraterrains LT275/65r18 - Horrible! Very squishy at all PSIs and horrible sway even after break-in. Steering response was very delayed as well
- Rebuilt front end and aligned at Ford with new Ford ball joints, drag links, hubs w/bearings, seals, etc
- Brought back Goodyears and picked up some Firestone Destination X/Ts in the same size which were much better even without break-in, but still wandering a little with a little sway
- Add caster?
- T code springs in front and ?? in the rear with current airbags
- change to 5100 bilsteins?
- Play with hitch position including negative angles?
