1990 7.3 IDI Project help
There is always the story of a guy draining a gallon of water out of the oil pan, putting in fresh oil and starting it up and driving it to this very day without doing anything else....obviously this isnt the case but the temptation to short cut things has usually got me later.
I start on the general maintenance at hand and get it as solid as possible as you go.
The fuel delivery is a must have that is solid. Without it, you are ****ed.
Tanks
lines
olives (i delete all the lines with olives and go soft and haven’t found any reason to have the hard lines with olives anywhere.....but i’d like to hear the voice of reason anytime!-). Probably all the leaking and dried olives I”ve dug out.). And your gonna spend some cash doing all this as brass fittings add up...but i have no more questions about whether all those olive joints are leaking when i have a hard start issue.
mechanical fuel pump delete... i can send pictures and parts list... just pm me
Injectors....i changed out injectors on my 86 just because the mileage on them was unknown and i felt like tagging a general maintenance item off the list....it ran fine. When i pulled them out, it was obvious they hadnt been done or retorqued in some time as the carbon in the injector chamber was bad... #2 had actually pulled apart, leaving the tip inside the chamber....used a reverse drill bit to remove... after rebuilt B.B. code injectors and fuel return line kit (250$ish) where installed the truck came alive! Lots more power.
Anyway, your truck has unknown maintenance and thats the kinda stuff you wanna hit as soon as you’re able.
fuel deliver for sure before ya even crank it agin...
so for around 500$ you can be solid....senders aren’t crucial with an electric fuel pump...none of my trucks have accurate readings...the f350 will be the first with new senders. The main thing is that your shower head is in good shape....you can pick em up for 30$.
Check the glow plugs and consider the manual system.... let us know how 90FORD...waiting....waiting
you asked for all that.....right?....dunno....just kinda came out
ideal is to have like one PSI at 3300rpm.
